ORHS Boys Soccercats Booster Meeting

Minutes – March 5, 2007

1. Coach’s Comments – OJ opened the meeting commenting that this is a team with many unknowns yet.  They are working hard on tactical aspects of the game.  Several players at JV and Varsity need to pass the fitness test.  Many players will switch between JV and Varsity during the season.  The boys are responding well to challenges.

One of the challenges will be spring camp and the activities there will focus on teamwork and responsibility.  Cell phones will be checked in except for 30-45 minutes each night.  Electronic games will not be allowed; board games and cards are okay.  The boys will cook and clean for themselves.  Schedule will be posted soon, but departure will be after breakfast Saturday, and returning around lunch time Wednesday.  Medicines will be maintained by Mitzi Thomas.

Practice shirts have been ordered and will be $20 for the two shirts.  All extra equipment is in except Timmy’s shoes.  Warm ups and Rain jerseys were optional.  All players pay for their shorts ($22 each) and socks.  It will be about a month before the final invoice is in.

Practice will generally end about 5:45 at start of season.

2. Pancake breakfast (March 10th) – This will be held at the OR Country club, 8a-10aAll players and families will be asked to sell 10 tickets and make a donation of juice or milk.  Money for the tickets will be collected at meeting and the scrimmage on Tuesday.  Please note how many are actually expected to come, as we are paying the Country club for tickets sold, unless it was a donation.  Juice and milk can be brought to the breakfast before 8, or to practice on Thursday.  The players will be divided between the breakfast and camp that morning.  Chairs are Kate Shult, Rossy Toledo, and Lesly Hendershot.

3. Soccer Camp (March 9 – 11) – Only 12 were registered but several more are expected.  Volunteers were solicited to marshal the fields for problems: Bill Campbell Friday and Saturday afternoon; Diego Saturday morning; John Milhalczo Sunday.  Chairs are Diego Del-Castillo and Felix Liang.

4. Spring Trip (March 17 – 21) – Checks were collected for the trip : $110 to ORHS for lodging, and $175 to OR SoccerCat Boosters.

5. Program/Banner - This is being prepared by Fred Smith and Karen Renner to be available by first home game after spring break.  After much work on their parts, it is expected we will clear about $2000.  Banners can be hung at the field for a fee: 4x8 foot banner is $300 for spring, $450 for spring and fall, $100 banner prep if they don’t have their own (high profit media).

6. Barry Redmond Tournament – Planning is going well so far.  Volunteer assignments will be posted very soon on the website.

7. Concessions and ticket assignments will be made and posted on the website.  Parents are responsible for switching as needed.   These efforts are headed by Patricia Spraker and Lesly Hendershot.  The Thomas’s will pick up the ticket box for varsity games, and Lesly Hendershot will pick up for JV games.

8. Treasurer Report – All fundraising efforts are going well.  We have about $4000 in the bank now, although money needs to be spent for concessions.  We really would like to have good weather for the Barry Redmond Tournament.

9. Fan Clothing – Sonya Hatfield has arranged for a selection of clothes including t-shirts, sweat shirts, golf shirts, and caps or visors.  She asks that payment accompany the order by Monday, March 12.

10. Signs – The Campbells passed out signs to publicize games.  Fred Smith and Lesly Hendershot will post them on the ends of town, and the Campbells will cover the campus.

Everyone was pleased with the strong turnout for the meeting and progress made for the boosters, and the team.

Respectfully submitted, Mary Palmer Campbell
